Tanya Gillis is a junior at San Pasqual High School
in Escondido. Tanya is also in the Girl Scouts. The Gold Award
in Girl Scouting is the highest award possible to achieve. For
her Gold Award, Tanya is trying to collect 150 SURGERY
DOLLS for Children's Hospital of San Diego by February 2005.
SURGERY DOLLS are plain dolls with hospital gowns,
without any faces or hair on them, that the surgeons use to show
the children where and how their surgery is going to be done on
them. The surgeon generally draws where their will be scars. The
children then draw their own faces and hair on the dolls to personalize
them and will treasure them for the rest of their lives. This
helps alleviate their fear of the impending surgery and helps
them to stand the pain.
Please help Tanya by making
a doll. The dolls are simple and quick to make. Use skin tones
for the body and remember boys will also get these dolls so make
the gowns appropriate for both sexes. To make it easier to mail,
you need not stuff them. Mail your dolls to: Tanya Gillis; 2458
Royal Crest Drive; Escondido, CA 92025. For more information contact
Tanya at surgerydolls@hotmail.com.
